May 2, 2026

Dear Families and Supporters,

The Orientation and Student Advancement team is thrilled to welcome you to the UVM Community and begin building a strong partnership as we guide your student’s transition to campus for the Fall 2026 semester. We’re here to support both you and your student every step of the way.

There is a lot to do before your student arrives on campus and we are happy to partner with you as we help your Catamount tackle their tasks. Please reach out to us if you have any questions. We are eager to connect with you as you prepare for your student's arrival in August!

Warmly,

JP, Molly, and Hannah
The New Student Orientation Team

UPCOMING DEADLINES - TAKE ACTION!

Housing Contracts and Roommate Groups are due

Tuesday, May 5 by 5:00 pm EDT

After this date, students will not receive priority consideration for Learning Community placement and will not be able to select their own room through the room selection process in June. Additionally, roommate preferences and roommate groups cannot be entered after May 5th. Students can access their housing contract with their NetID in the housing portal.

Pre-Orientation Programs (POPs) at UVM

Participating in a POP builds a foundation for a student's UVM journey and is a great way to begin meeting classmates.

POP Participation Deadlines

May 4: UVM GO lotteries close

May 4: UVM TREK lottery closes

May 8: First Scholars Pre-Orientation Program applications due

June 21: SESP applications are due

POP Opportunities

Parent-to-Parent Tip: Encourage your student to sign up for a Pre-Orientation Program (POP). It’s a great way for them to ease into campus life, meet new people in a smaller group setting, and you'll love hearing about their adventures later. Financial assistance may be available for some programs!

TRANSITION SPOTLIGHT

Introducing the New Student Checklist, aka The To-Do List

Every incoming student has access to a New Student Checklist, their personalized list of essential steps to complete before arriving on campus. This checklist lives on their UVM Applicant Status Page, requiring a student login, so we encourage you to check in with them regularly to ensure they’re making progress.

New items will be added to the checklist throughout May and June, so students should check their list frequently and act promptly.

Note: Some students will also see a separate Financial Aid checklist on their Application Status Page, which is equally important to monitor and complete.

New Student Insight Sessions (NSIS)

These virtual orientation sessions are designed for families, supporters, and students to support the transition to UVM and highlight the many resources available to help students succeed. The schedule of the sessions and descriptions can be found here.

Parent-to-Parent Tip: Read through all the NSIS, find the ones that most interest you and/or your student and mark them on your calendars. Not all sessions will be applicable to all students and families, so do not feel you must attend them all.

MOVE-IN DAY & NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

All new students move in either Wednesday, August 26 or Thursday the 27.  Your students' move-in day will be determined by University Housing (universityhousing@uvm.edu). Room selection is scheduled throughout June and most students will be assigned their move in date by Mid-July.

For planning purposes, we suggest booking any necessary travel and accommodations to be ready to move in the morning of Wednesday, August 26. Once you receive your student’s move-in date and time, you can always shift your travel bookings if needed to Thursday, August 27.

Students participating in Pre-Orientation Programs may have an earlier move-in day according to their program start dates.

New Student Orientation is a required in-person program that begins at 3:00pm for each’s students assigned move-in day and concludes Sunday, August 30 with our Convocation and Twilight Induction. Orientation programming is for students only, and runs daily from 9am-9pm. Families and supporters are invited to attend a Family Orientation session from 3:00–5:30pm on August 26 or 27.
